Oregon’s teacher shortage has caused the state to take drastic measures placing underqualified teachers in the classroom. ABC 7 reports, “Hoping to help curb what officials are calling an ‘extraordinary shortage’ of teachers across the state, the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission announced a new rule temporarily dropping the bachelor's degree requirement to become licensed in some cases.” Without qualified teachers, students’ education will suffer.
In April 2021, Frontline Education surveyed 1,200 district leaders to discover that two out of three respondents reported having teacher shortages in their schools. This is a record high since launching the survey in 2015.
