Arizona has a critical teacher shortage that affects the education its students are receiving. According to AZ ED News, “The data indicates about 28% of teacher vacancies across the state this year remain unfilled while half of the vacancies are filled by teachers who do not meet the state’s standard certification requirements.” Uncertified teachers have not completed all of their training and are under qualified to educate students. Arizona students are suffering. Ultimately, the most recent teacher shortage report shows 1,699 teacher vacancies plus 3,634 under-qualified teachers in Arizona during the 2021-22 school year.
In April 2021, Frontline Education surveyed 1,200 district leaders to discover that two out of three respondents reported having teacher shortages in their schools. This is a record high since launching the survey in 2015.
