Teacher Shortage in South Carolina
South Carolina teacher vacancies are growing year over year. CERRA’s annual report states, “South Carolina districts reported 699 certified teaching/service positions still vacant at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. This number signifies a 26% increase (~143 positions) compared to data reported for 2019-20 and a 12.5% jump (~78 positions) from 2018-19.” Every year, fewer students have access to the certified teachers they deserve.
Ultimately, the most recent teacher shortage report shows 1,474 teacher vacancies plus 7,611 under-qualified teachers in South Carolina during the 2021-22 school year.
Teacher Shortage reports claim, "Based on news and state reports, we estimate that there are at least 55,000 vacant teacher positions in the United States."
