Rural towns and big cities alike are facing teacher shortages in Nevada. Universities.com states, “As of March 2021, CCSD reported that they were short over 400 teachers and that those shortages left nearly 12,000 students without a permanent teacher. This lack of consistency negatively impacts students’ education.” Critical vacancies include middle and high school specialists that teach high-level science and technologies. Ultimately, the most recent teacher shortage report shows 837 teacher vacancies plus 1,092 under-qualified teachers in Nevada during the 2021-22 school year.
In April 2021, Frontline Education surveyed 1,200 district leaders to discover that two out of three respondents reported having teacher shortages in their schools. This is a record high since launching the survey in 2015.
