Teacher shortage in Massachusetts
The Massachusetts teacher shortage has created widespread challenges for schools across the state, leaving districts with unfilled positions and growing class sizes. The most recent Teacher Shortage report shows that during the 2022-23 academic year, there were 5,485 underqualified teachers in Massachusetts public schools - an increase of almost 500 from the previous year. Teacher shortage reports also estimate at least 49,000 vacant teacher positions across the country, emphasizing the national teacher recruitment crisis affecting nearly all states.
