“Ohio has awesome teachers. We just need more of them,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria. Ohio has a decreasing population of certified teachers and an increasing population of students. A disruptive teacher shortage is imminent as teacher numbers continue to decline. Ultimately, the most recent teacher shortage report shows 504 under-qualified teachers in Ohio during the 2017-18 school year.
In April 2021, Frontline Education surveyed 1,200 district leaders to discover that two out of three respondents reported having teacher shortages in their schools. This is a record high since launching the survey in 2015.
