Teacher shortage in Indiana

Indiana teacher shortages affect core classes and career-preparedness electives including Business, Computer Science, Fine Arts, and World Languages. Former State School Superintendent Jennifer McCormick said, “Unfortunately, this shortage continues to spill into areas not only critical to Indiana’s educational plan, but areas that prepare our students for a bright future.” Without exposure to these career choices in school, students can be stunted when picking college majors and technical schools for their futures. "Rebecca Estes is senior director of educator talent for the Indiana Department of Education. She says around 3,200 job openings exists statewide at schools, and more than half of the vacancies are teaching positions," reports wishtv.

Teacher Shortage reports claim, "Based on news and state reports, we estimate that there are at least 55,000 vacant teacher positions in the United States."
