Teacher shortage in Kentucky
Kentucky is facing a teacher shortage in more than a hundred districts across the state. Students are experiencing a decline in the overall quality of their education due to the teacher shortage. Critical subject areas include Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Special Education, English as a Second Language, Health, Art, and Music. The Kentucky Department of Education reported that in 2023 “A full two-thirds of public schools reported that their biggest challenge to hiring is a lack of qualified candidates.” Ultimately, the most recent teacher shortage report estimates 2,000 teacher vacancies plus 3,391 under-qualified teachers in Kentucky during the 2022-23 school year.
Teacher Shortage reports claim, "Based on news and state reports, we estimate that there are at least 55,000 vacant teacher positions in the United States."
