Proximity Learning offers a robust, customizable curriculum for online education programs.

Every district has its own priorities, pacing, and student needs, which means your curriculum should be built to adapt to them. At Proximity Learning, we believe students learn best when instruction reflects their standards, schedules, and learning goals, not when they’re forced to adjust to rigid programs. That’s why our approach to synchronous learning is built around flexibility, collaboration, and customization.

Our synchronous learning curriculum supports live, interactive instruction while adapting to district scope and sequence, pacing guides, and classroom realities. The result is a learning experience that feels familiar, aligned, and effective for students and educators alike.

Our Synchronous Learning Model

Proximity Learning delivers live, synchronous instruction directly into physical classrooms, pairing a livestreamed, certified teacher with an in-person facilitator who supports students on site. Unlike asynchronous online learning, where students work alone through self-paced learning and pre-recorded lessons, our teachers lead class live on your school’s bell schedule. A Learning Management System (LMS) houses lesson materials, assignments, grades, and assessments.

The Benefits of Synchronous Learning

When implemented well, synchronous virtual K-12 instruction creates value across the entire district. Proximity Learning’s model supports students, teachers, and administrators in several meaningful ways, including:

  • Stronger student engagement and progress: Live instruction keeps students present and accountable, helping them stay focused on learning goals and track student progress in real-time.
  • Immediate support and feedback: Teachers can adjust instruction, answer questions, and guide learning as it happens, strengthening understanding and confidence.
  • Consistency across classrooms: Synchronous teaching helps schools deliver the same core lessons, pacing, and learning objectives across classrooms, while allowing teachers to adjust support based on student needs.

Our Curriculum Team

Behind every Proximity Learning course is a dedicated curriculum team made up of experienced educators who understand both teaching and learning design. Curriculum Manager Monica Portillo brings more than 7 years of experience in teaching and instructional coaching, with a deep appreciation for how curriculum components fit together to support student success.

Curriculum Specialist Stephanie Eaton began her journey as a classroom teacher before teaching virtually with Proximity Learning. Her transition into curriculum development reflects our commitment to building curriculum with real classroom experience at the center. Together, they lead a team of instructors who write, review, and refine curriculum to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment.

How We Provide the Best Synchronous Curriculum Possible

Delivering a strong curriculum takes intention, process, and collaboration. Proximity Learning focuses on quality at every step through several measures.

Rigorous Quality and Review Process

Our curriculum development follows a structured, multi-step process. Instructors who write or review curriculum are often actively teaching that subject through synchronous instruction, allowing them to test lessons in the classroom and refine them based on student engagement and feedback.

Each course includes lesson plans, activities, and learning materials that instructors can access and adapt. With dozens of curriculum projects underway at any given time, our team maintains consistency across subjects while continuously improving content.

Interactive Curriculum Resources Library

Beyond the core curriculum, Proximity Learning offers a growing library of interactive resources, including interactive quizzes, Nearpod activities, and Kahoot games. These tools help instructors differentiate instruction and meet students where they are, including those who need additional support. This flexibility supports blended learning approaches and allows instructors to tailor lessons without sacrificing pacing or alignment.

Standards Alignment and Customization

Proximity Learning curriculum is customizable to state standards, district scope and sequence, and pacing guides. While many courses align to rigorous common core standards, we handle each customization individually to give districts exactly what they need. Clear communication between the district, in-person facilitators, and instructors keeps alignment strong and learning goals front and center.

Teacher Support That Supports Students

A strong curriculum depends on supported educators. Proximity Learning provides ongoing professional development, mentorship, and access to training programs that help instructors succeed. When teachers feel prepared and supported, students benefit from more confident instruction, clearer expectations, and stronger outcomes.
