Facilitator Training Sparks Dynamic Collaboration
At Proximity Learning, we believe that the key to successful virtual instruction lies in the seamless collaboration between our certified virtual teachers and the in-classroom facilitators who guide and support students. Our in-classroom facilitators go beyond administrative tasks for our certified virtual teachers—many of them are aspiring teachers or instructional aides passionate about shaping education and supporting students. That’s why this unique partnership is more than just logistics—it’s a dynamic relationship that transforms classrooms and drives student engagement.
Recently, we hosted an on-site facilitator training session, led by Mandisa K. Vinson, M.P.A, our Senior Regional K-12 Manager. This session showcased what makes our approach to facilitator training so impactful.
“We emphasize not only providing a certified virtual teacher but also empowering facilitators with instructional guidance,” Mandisa explained. “They’re not just facilitators—they’re instructional leaders in the classroom.”
What Sets Our Facilitator Training Apart
- Building Connections Between Virtual and In-Classroom Teaching
Facilitators are trained to seamlessly bridge the gap between virtual instruction and in-classroom activities, creating a cohesive and engaging learning environment. Their training equips them with a deep understanding of diverse engagement strategies, such as station teaching, where students rotate through interactive learning stations, and other co-teaching models like parallel teaching, where facilitators and virtual teachers deliver lessons to smaller, focused groups simultaneously. By mastering these techniques, facilitators ensure virtual lessons complement and enhance hands-on learning experiences, making abstract concepts more tangible. - Collaborative Planning
Effective planning lies at the core of classroom success, ensuring every student has the resources they need to thrive. Facilitators collaborate closely with virtual teachers to develop a variety of engaging tools and activities that bring lessons to life. These include anchor charts to simplify complex concepts, graphic organizers to structure student thinking, and interactive journals to encourage personal reflection and deeper understanding. They also integrate hands-on activities, collaborative group projects, and digital tools like quizzes or virtual scavenger hunts to make learning more dynamic. By combining thoughtful planning with these engaging strategies, facilitators and virtual teachers create a rich, interactive educational experience that enhances lesson delivery and fosters meaningful student connections. - Nurturing Relationships for Student Success
Facilitators and virtual teachers form a strong connection by engaging in collaborative planning and continuous dialogue, both of which center on the shared goal of supporting their students. Facilitators share insights about students’ in-class behaviors and preferences, while virtual teachers offer expert instructional techniques tailored to those observations. This partnership is further strengthened through feedback loops—regular discussions where facilitators and teachers reflect on classroom successes and areas for growth.
Dr. Elie Bracy III, superintendent of Portsmouth Public Schools, shared, “The relationship between the teacher and our facilitator is the key to the success of our students. When equipped with the right knowledge and communication skills, facilitators create a nurturing, collaborative environment that grows throughout the year.”
- Mentorship from Veteran Educators
Facilitators gain invaluable insights from seasoned teachers, who share proven strategies and practical techniques that empower them to excel in their roles. Through mentorship and hands-on training, facilitators learn how to manage classroom dynamics, support diverse student needs, and enhance lesson delivery in collaboration with virtual instructors.
Beyond these foundational skills, facilitators also develop a deeper understanding of instructional best practices, such as differentiated learning approaches, effective communication techniques, and methods for fostering a positive classroom culture. This guidance not only sharpens their ability to support student engagement and academic growth but also inspires confidence in their leadership capabilities. Equipped with these tools, facilitators step into their roles as proactive classroom leaders, bridging the gap between virtual and in-person learning while becoming invaluable contributors to the educational process.
Real Voices, Real Impact
The training was a game-changer for many participants:
“I never had this type of training before—it was great to collaborate and dive into activities we can take directly into the classroom,” said Curtis Swann, instructional facilitator at Portsmouth Public Schools.
“It gave me a better perspective of what to expect,” Travis Jones shared, reflecting on how the training prepared him for the year ahead.
Looking Ahead
As we embark on a new school year, facilitators like Kyle Wallace are ready to lead with confidence:
“I’m excited for this new school year—very much so.”
Proximity Learning’s training programs ensure facilitators are more than classroom managers. They’re integral to creating an engaging, empowering environment where virtual teachers and students can thrive together. This innovative approach is just one more way we’re shaping the future of education, one classroom at a time.
