Enriched Live Instruction Model (ELIM)

The pandemic has transformed teaching methods and exacerbated the learning gap. Anxieties arose alongside uncertainty of the effectiveness of traditional versus virtual methods of teaching. When forced to turn to online spaces, asynchronous and synchronous learning became the norm. How can teachers ensure students are learning, understanding, and applying lessons in the virtual classroom?

Relationships in the classroom are necessary for engagement and student comprehension but how do they form in digital environments? Our method of Enriched Live Instruction is the first step to ensuring students receive the education they deserve.

What is Enriched Live Instruction?

Proximity Learning’s Enriched Live Instruction Model (ELIM) simulates the traditional classroom environment by providing an in-person facilitator and a virtual teacher. This structure creates an interactive and intimate environment that is organized for individualized instruction. Through the application of concepts that often mirror the socratic method of discussions and question-answer formats, educators can gauge student understanding during and after a lesson. As a result, students retain concepts more effectively and understand material on a deeper level. Questions may be answered privately or publicly during lecture to make students feel more comfortable. ELIM also allows students to feel more comfortable asking questions during class through the chat function, allowing for more one on one interaction between the teacher and student.

Cutting-edge technology requires cutting-edge, knowledgeable teachers. Technical literacy with various popular systems is a requirement for Proximity Learning teachers. Experience with programs and materials like Nearpod, Zoom, dual-monitor systems, and dynamic virtual backgrounds constructs an immersive and dynamic atmosphere for learning.

Certified teachers have more training and produce better learning outcomes than teachers who do not display professional accreditation. ELIM requires that teachers obtain certifications before instruction while additional state-specific certifications may be added through reciprocity.

Synchronous Versus Asynchronous Instruction

Synchronous instruction is a proven method of learning which sharpens interpersonal interaction and shapes virtual communities of social-emotional learning. Students may learn information at their own pace but can still rely on the instructor as a guide and sharpen interpersonal skills.

Though flexibility is the appeal of asynchronous instruction, low-engagement between students and teachers reduces motivation to complete tasks and desire to ask questions. As responsibility falls completely on the shoulders of the learner, difficult concepts become less accessible if students do not have proper accountability.

With over ten years of online learning experience, Proximity Learning is dedicated to providing the highest quality education services to your districts.
