It’s hard to argue against the fact that three day weekends are a great chance to relax, spend time with your loved ones, or catch up on personal projects. But would they be an adequate schedule for the whole school year?

Results from multiple studies suggest that a 4-day school week stimulates just as much, if not more, productivity as a 5-day one.

The Colorado Student Assessment Program found that students’ reading scores stayed the same and math scores went up when they switched from a 5-day to a 4-day week. However, students were in school for the same amount of time. This longer school day that allowed for an extra day off proved academically successful. As an added bonus, the districts also saved money on bus transportation.

Whether you’re an advocate for the permanent 4-day week or not, enjoy your long weekend this Memorial Day!
