Prior to completion of a Chinese Language teaching program at Rice University and becoming a certified Chinese teacher in Texas, she had worked for several school districts in Houston metro as a substitute teacher and taught Chinese in weekend Chinese schools for many years. In addition, her past experience includes teaching Chinese Art History in Su-Zhou University, Taipei and working as a museum educator for the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
By background in Curriculum and Instruction, Su-Mei Lee was able to combine education theory with practices and work with Proximity Learning curriculum team in developing Chinese lessons for beginners and advanced learners. In addition, with her knowledge in art, culture and history, she has been bringing Chinese daily-life activities related to these three aspects into the content of the online classes. Her teaching objective is that students learn not only the Chinese language but also Chinese art, history and culture and their inter-relationship.
Masters of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and Master of Art degree in Chinese Art History from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan.
