I am Janellkay Brigham, Ph.D. I have been teaching ASL in Texas for over 30 years in public school, online and at the university level. I earned degrees in Deaf Education, Habilitation and Adult Education. I have received numerous awards in teaching and service to the Deaf community. My academic interests include research on topics related to ASL and Deaf Education. I proudly joined a team of writers to rewrite the current TEKS for ASL.
Two of my latest endeavors are leading a Deaf choir, and joining the Texas Deaf Grassroots Movement committee to fight for Deaf civil rights. My goal is to emphasize the importance of language acquisition for deaf children focusing on global proactive parental knowledge of deafness rather than reactive.
