(Springfield, Ohio) – Teachers are offering $1,000 scholarships to students who are going to school to become a teacher.

The Clark County Retired Teachers Association will be giving out scholarships for students from Clark County who are in their second or third year of college. Regardless of the university attended, students who graduated from a public Clark County high school will be eligible for the award.

Students who apply for the scholarship must also have a GPA above 2.5.

These teachers have participated in a book sell and other events to raise money for the scholarship. The scholarships also have two sponsors: Heartland Federal Credit Union and Dr. Brian Weber of Springfield.

“This has kind of been the primary goal of this organization,” Jerry Laub said. “It goes back probably another 10 years. It’s to help future teachers get started with their schooling.”
